From today’s Patriot Ledger:

fter multiple three-day strikes last month, some hotel workers in Boston have walked off the job indefinitely until a new contract agreement is reached with their employers.

Local 26, the Massachusetts chapter of Unite Here, a nationwide labor union that represents hotel workers, announced the latest strike in a release Sunday. Last week, the union said the indefinite strike would begin if a new contract was not agreed upon by Oct. 4.

The workers are calling for higher wages, better staffing and the reversal of COVID-era cuts. Since their last contract expired on Aug. 31, workers at several Boston hotels walked off the job in three-day strikes throughout September.

Local 26 announced the start of an indefinite strike at two Boston hotels Sunday. The union said more than 600 workers are participating in the strike so far, and members at other hotels in the city could go on strike at any time.

The two hotels affected by the latest wave also saw its workers go on strike during Labor Day weekend.

Local 26 said the latest strike would last until workers “reach a mutually satisfactory agreement with the hotel companies.” The union also said picket lines would be staffed 24/7.
