From today’s Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

Disputes between landlords and tenants were the most common type of complaint filed with Wisconsin’s consumer protection agency last year.

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection fielded over 10,000 consumer complaints in 2023, leading to settlements of over $3.3 million, according to a news release.

The top complaints the agency received last year were issues between landlords and tenants, such as returning a security deposit, evictions or unauthorized entry. The agency received 2,208 such complaints, a slight increase from last year.

Another indicator that disputes between landlords and tenants are common: DATCP had over 60,000 visits to a resource page on the regulations that govern rental housing.
